good morning, i'm lori stokes. >> thank you for joining us, i'm ken rosato. welcome back. >> thank you. >> today is march 14th. you need to grab your umbrella. it will be a wet commute. >> you're never more than seven minutes away from our weather and traffic with bill evans. >> you need the raincoat and boots. sometimes people call them wellies. you need the wellies. if you're not feeling good. we hope you get you wellie. >> long island, 49 around north port. 49 at massapequa. the temperatures are at 41 and 41 poughkeepsie. we have this rain across the southwest continue to move east ward across connecticut and long island. we have off and on rain all day long. all the live long day. temperatures are in the mid and low 30s. like the 40s for the weekend.

i'm sure this will affect the commute. >> i'm sure it lchlt new jersey transit is running close metro north is doing just fine. once you do the one train, we have track work. there is no service between one officerm and track work. this is near exit 19. that is another accident cleared away. we had an earlier problem on the bqe. stalled tractor trailer. that has been cleared off of the bqe and we're going over here to look what is happening here on the northbound ramp to 127th street closed with construction street cleaning rules in effect. lori, over to you. >> thank you. we'll start with the breaking news. an amtrak train derailed. a section of the southwest chief headed from los angeles to chicago went off the rails in southwest kansas just after 1:00 a.m.. now, here are the images just into our newsroom showing some of the cars on their side.

at least five of the nine cars derailed. amtrak says there were 128 passengers and 14 crew members on board. 11 were taken to the hospital. no word right now on the extent of their injuries. we'll have more on the amtrak derailment in kansas as information becomes available. our time is 4:33. crews are working on a plan to recover the sunken tug boat from the bottom of the hudson. two were killed, one remains missing. kristin thorne is live. she has the latest. >>reporter:. rescue crews are not hopeful that they will be able to find the third missing crew member. 56-year-old harry hernandez of staten island. a lot of the attention turns to how to get the 90-foot tug boat at the bottom of the river. this is 40 feet down. it leaked 5,000 gallons of diesel fuel int river.

the oil slick is visible. the owner is contracting a private company to pull the boat out. they found the second missing boat member, his body was found in the sunken boat. >> they've reached every possible part of the ship they were able to reach in order to find the third crew member, however, there is no other spaces for them to search at this time that are accessible, so we move on to salvage opera. >> 62-year-old paul ammon of new jersey was the first victim found after the boat crashed into a stationary barge saturday morning. radio transmissions show that crew members did know that they were about to hit that barge but just clearly weren't able to avoid hitting it. governor cuomo says that the the time. we're live in terry town.

i'm kristin thorne. channel 7, eyewitness news. >> thank you. it is 5:34. there is new video police want you to see to find a man who attempted to rape a woman steps away from her front door. darla miles is live in brooklyn with details. >>reporter: good morning, lori, eyewitness news spoke exclusively with the brother of the woman involved in attack. we're honoring his request not to air the interview but he gave us specific interviews. his 29-year-old sister had returned home from a date before midnight when she was attacked in the lobby of her building near 50th and sunset park. the suspect had a knife, pressed the knife against her neck, molested her and ran away. the nypd this morning releasing new video of the suspect. he is described of between 5'9 and 5'10 wearing a dark hoodie.

. welcome back. take a look at this new video. you can see a los angeles police officer ramming into another patrol car with the suspect behind the wheel. police say the suspect stole the police cruiser and led officers on an hour long chase before it ended here with officers surrounding the parking lot and opening fire. you can see the smoke filling the air as they tried to reverse away from the officers. the condition is not known this morning.

to fix the damage left behind after more than 20 freight train cars derailed outside of detroit. they jumped the tracks near howe township. they are blaming a three-foot broken . upper eastside neighborhood is ready for spring after neighbors. nearly two-dozen colorful bird houses docked the trees on east 8rd street between york and east end neighborhoods. the homemade homes appear there one week ago. the man who created the bird houses want to remain anonymous. the owner of a business says he knows who it is. >> he is a very good guy.

have our street cleaning rules in effect for today. lori, over to you. a maryland police officer was killed in what is being called an unprovoked attack. a shooter opened fire on the first officer that he saw outside of the landover police station. he was 28-year-old jacai colson. the police chief says the officers immediately returned fire. the suspect was injured and taken to the hospital. the second suspect was caught a short time later. he was shot, he was rushed to the hospital where he later died. governor andrew cuomo released good news for a village in new york dealing with contaminated water. he visited for the first time since a chemical linked to cancer was found in the water supply. residents were told to stop drinking the tap water after tested detected the chemical. a temporary walter filtration is in fact working.

you're never more than seven minutes away from weather and traffic together here on eyewitness news this morning. this is the accuweather radar. this is spreading up into the hudson river valley we'll have a rainy morning with temperatures around 1 to 488 that will be dropping. have wind around that will be coming in east at 10 miles an hour here so it is a windy, chilly, rainy day today. temperatures are in the upper 40s. dropping to the mid-40's by noon time today so it will be a rainy day for the morning commute and a rainy day for the afternoon commute with a lot of wind. so make sure you have all of your rain gear. heather is looking at the commute here. weather then heather. >> right behind me is the. in england turn way. is this where the accident was. i'm not seeing any cars in this spot so we'll head over to our maps. i'll pinpoint where the accident was. it was on the northbound side near exit 19. it it kind of looks like we have something working.

keep my eye on. that we also have this problem. if you take 21st street getting to the l.i.e., 21st street is closed near the l.i.e., queen's midtown tunnel because of an accident investigation. one train has track work. it should be cleared up by five avment alternate side of the effect. 4:55. happening today, police commissioner william bratton will rededicate a plaque that honors a police officer killed 20 years ago today. kevin gillespie was shot in 1996. that stretch of the grand concourse was renamed in his memory last week. police continue evidents to identify three suspects involved in a violent robbery in the bronx. officers released this video yesterday in hopes that it will bring about more clues. detectives say three men attacked a 62-year-old man in

we're around 50 to start your day here at 5:00 a.m.. it is raining. we have light rain and fog in thomas river. this hour of the day it should be at 35 up the hudson river valley, 25, so it is a much warmer overnight period with this rain coming up, but with the wind out of the east coming into the rain that is coming up in the southwest it will be a windy, rainy day. rain will creep across fair field county. we have a lot of rain from the city west and southwest. it is a rainy, windy day today. look at the wind. east at 30 miles an hour. we'll see the rain off and on until about this time tomorrow which we'll talk about in the forecast. i keep saying the word heather because i thought i might get coffee. >> it is not working? >> heather, heather, heather. heather. >> don't say beatle juice three times. you can say heather. subway service running on or

coffee situation for you -- subway service on or close to schedule. we have 24th street near the queens tunnel closed because of an on going investigation. minor delays at bridge construction at the lincoln tunnel and holland tunnel has a minor delay. we're looking at new jersey railroad metro north doing just fine. no major problems there and it looks like we have a pretty good situation here. my camera was moved unfortunately off of the fr drive. it is just fine. ken, over to you. it is 5:02. we start with more of the breaking news we've been telling you about. the least 11 people are in the hospital after an amtrak derailed. southwest chief which was headed from los angeles to chicago went off the rails about 20 miles west of dodge city. at least five cars of the nine-car train derailed. amtrak saying there were

11 people had to be taken to the hospital. no word on the extent of the injuries. one person on board the tug boat that crashed remains missing. the focus is getting the boat out of the hudson river. kristin thorne is live in terry town. >>reporter: rescue crews say they really have looked everywhere for this missing crew member harry hernandez of staten island but what they're dealing with right now is just some really bad conditions in the hudson river. of visibility. so part of this attention now turns to how they'll get this 90-foot tug boat out of the water. the boat owner hired a praft contractor to submit a -- a private contractor to submit a salvage plan to authorities. it was saturday morning around 5:30 when the tug boat crashed into a stationary barge.

at the time. the boat, with three crew members on board was travelling from albany to jersey city at time. investigators are trying to figure out how this all >> there are numerous witnesses between the crews and three boats and work crew that was on barge. it will take time to sor. >>reporter: another victim has been identified as 62-year-old paul ammon of new jersey his daughter told us he was supposed to be on vacation at the time but got called back the other victim has been identified as 29-year-old timothy conklin of long island. i'm kristin thorne. channel 7, eyewitness. we have a developing story to tell you about out of brooklyn and police are at a sunset park home where a 2-year-old was found unconscious in a bathtub.

melody was later pronounced dead. her parents are being interviewed by police. no charges have been filed. an autopsy will determine the child's cause of death. a staten island woman facing murder charges after a newborn baby was found dead at her home. 28-year-old nausheen rahman was arrested yesterday with concealing a corpse. the body was found inside a trash bag after she walked to the hospital and doctors determined she had just given birth. >> i would have picked a baby up and taken it to the hospital. >> the medical examiner has yet to denver how the newborn died. a man suspected of shooting two queens deli workers is dead. the gunman argued with the pair at mike's deli in ridge wood before opening fire and hurting them. more than an hour later, officers tried to pull the suspect over in brownsville when they heard a gunshot. they rushed to the car, found

both of the dell yie employees are expected -- deli employees are expected to be okay. turkey's president is vowing to bring terrorism to its knees following sunday's deadly car bomb attack. the turks blame suicide bombing on kurdish militants who are trying to establish their own territory in southern turkey. the turkish airport hit 18 kurdish targets this morning and rund up of suspects is on the way. the united states and nato condemned the attack which killed 34 people and hurt 120 others. an al-quaida group is claiming responsibility for sunday's attack. deadly attack on three beach front hotels in ivory coast. 14 civilians and two members of the special forces were killed as well as six gun men. one possible target may have been an american trade delegation. the americans have not made it shooting started.

. 5:13. a fire in queens sends six people to the hospital, a five are firefighters. flames broke out in flushing. 140 firefighters responded to the blaze. the injured firefighters reportedly suffered electric

they were all taken to new york presbyterian hospital. they're expected to be okay. a serious of crashes involving -- a series of crashes involving more than a hundred vehicles in north carolina. the road was wet at the time and that may have been a factor in the first crashs the rest might have been a result of rubbernecking. 5:14. thousands of homes are sdrchled after severe flooding -- are destroyed after severe flooding hit the south. that number could rise as the flooding cannots. president obama signed a major disaster declaration for louisiana yesterday sending federal aid for flood victims. four people have died in louisiana since the storms began last week. there are 1400 national guard troops working to rescue people from flooded communities. 5:14. meteorologist bill evans joining us now with the accuweather forecast. >> we have cloudy skies. we have showers right now. we still have pretty good visibilities here.

we can see all the way down there. that is looking good and the power play around queens. we have a good looking morning here. you need the rain gear, the long raincoat. winds are showing up calm here to an east wind but the wind is starting to build. it was in the 40% range last hour. yesterday's high was 62. that different great. normal high is 49. normal low, 35, we should be at 35 this hour, we're at 50. later today it is 15 degrees colder and we'll have a gusty wind making it raw and rainy today. temperatures rebound back into the 60s by wednesday. it is 52 right now around kingston and poughkeepsie. these numbers are warm. should be 35 around the five burroughs #25shgs to 30 north and west -- 25 to 30 north and west. we have this east wind off of the 43-degree water here. that makes it feel much chillier today, you know, once you tackle on the rain with that.

that is heavy here along the freeway and hudson river. we'll have the issues right and wind. they're trying to recover that tug. we'll see this rain coming up all day long off and on and of the rain fall has started to come down. 800 around summerville. through the morning commute, temperature drops into the low and mid-40's here. the winds out of the east will make it feel like the 30s. rainy, windy and raw even into tonight and tomorrow morning. we'll have a left over shower. by the afternoon, we're into the mid and upper 50s with cloudy skies and we'll have breaks of sunshine, so we'll have much better weather going on into the week. after school today, kids, it is rainy and windy. i don't think you have much going on today. but getting to the bus this morning and the bus this evening, you'll need your rain gear. it is chilly, windy and rainy. temperatures at 47, feels like the 30s. cloudy and breezy. periods of rain tonight and we're looking at 42.

for the man who tried to rape a woman in the lobby of her sunset park apartment building. police released this surveillance video of the man they want to catch. they say the woman was coming home from a date close to midnight on saturday when she let the man into her building when he said he lived there. the man then pressed a knife to the woman's throat and sexually molested her before running off. new jersey law enforcement will gather for a final salute to a state trooper killed on the job. a vigil was held last week for state trooper shawn cullen. the 31-year-old died last tuesday when he was hit by a passing driver when responding to a car fire. there were several fire trucks and patrol cars on the scene with their lights on at time. new jersey lawmakers are working to rename the law requiring drivers to move over when approaching the scene of a crash in his honor. the funeral for the officer is at noon at st. charles church. let's look at this video from the bronx.

violent robbery in the bronx. police released this video. three men attacked a 62-year-old man in wakefield tuesday night near east 220th street and bronx park east. one man threw a punch knocking out the victim an the three stole his cell phone and cash. the victim is recovering at the hospital. it is 5:50. a maryland police officer was killed in what is being called an unprovoked attack. police say a shooter opened fire on the first officer he saw outside of the landover police station yesterday afternoon. that officer was 28-year-old jacai colson. the police chief says the officers immediately returned fire. the intaukt injured and taken to the hospital. second suspect was caught a short time later. officer colson was rushed to the hospital where he later died. >> he was a real cop's cop. he didn't shy away from any calls. never shishged responsibility. he was -- shirked responsibility. he was always working and was
